Mahima Vasishth

Mahima Vasishth is an Economist at the Economics and Statistics Unit, Center for Effective Governance for Indian States. Prior to this, she was a postdoctoral scholar at the Laboratory for Effective Anti-Poverty Policies, Bocconi University, and received her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Irvine in June 2023.  

Mahima's research interests are in the fields of Labor Economics, Development Economics, and Public Economics. She uses experimental and quasi-experimental techniques to study how laws and social norms influence responses to gender-based violence, the economic impacts of women's empowerment, and the role of social inclusion in human capital investments. She is also a Research Affiliate at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics, and collaborates with the International Monetary Fund, and the National Council of Applied Economic Research, providing expertise to develop evidence-based strategies aimed at reducing gender gaps in economic opportunities and enhancing welfare programs.
